Birdwatching/Walking Trails

Kimiwan Birdwalk & Interpretive Centre
Along with the summer season comes the opening of the Kimiwan Birdwalk & Interpretive Centre for an exciting and rewarding birding experience.

The Interpretive Centre is located south of Kimiwan Lake on the west side of town, adjacent to Highway 2 and is staffed with interpreters from May 1st to August 31st. In the centre you will find a bird migration display, a unique herbarium collection of local flora, a computer station complete with public access to birding CD ROM’s and the web.

Then enjoy the outdoors and take a stroll down the 300 meters of gravelled paths and raised wooden walkways to view a variety of waterfowl and shorebird species along the wetlands of Kimiwan Lake. Don`t forget to take your camera along.  There have been more than 200 species of birds spotted in the area.  Afer this take a leisurely stroll on gravelled trails developed by the McLennan Tourism Society, with more bird viewing opportunities on the man-made ponds.
