Municipal Plans

Planning & Development is important to ensure orderly and sustainable development in the Town of McLennan.

In making decisions regarding planning and development municipalities must consider rules and regulations from all levels federal, provincial, regional and municipal government.

Master Plans

An Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) is a high-level policy plan created by neighbouring municipalities. The Government of Alberta mandates that municipalities with a shared border complete an IDP. An IDP is designed to foster cooperation and integrated development near the municipal boundaries so that unnecessary costs and negative impacts for the municipalities are avoided.

A Municipal Development Plan (MDP) is a frame work used by municipalities to address long-term community development, land use, and growth in a responsible way. It provides policy direction and offers land use guidelines.

Area Structure Plans provide the framework for future subdivisions and development of new neighbourhoods in McLennan.

The Land Use Bylaw controls the use and development of land and buildings on individual parcels of land. It divides the town into land use districts. Each district has certain land use regulations.

The Subdivision Authority Bylaw provides the MacKenzie Municipal Services Agency the subdivision approving authority for the Town of McLennan. Under this authority, the MMSA is responsible for the complete processing of subdivision applications.
