Tax Auction
A tax sale is a forced sale of property at a public auction in order to collect amounts owing to a municipality.
Each year the Town of McLennan holds, if required, a tax auction in the Council Chambers at the Town Administration building. This is publicly advertised and information can be found on our website, facebook page, the gazette and a notice is posted on the bulletin board in the office.
Municipalities rely on the collection of property taxes to provide services, to make improvements to infrastructure and to meet financial obligations. Legislation provides municipalities the tools and authority to collect taxes that are due.
This legislation requires that municipalities set a reserve bid for properties or designated manufactured homes as close as reasonably possible to fair market value (the amount a property might be expected to realize if it were sold on the open market by a willing seller to a willing buyer).
